Abhi Nemani is a government technology entrepreneur, scholar, and public servant. Currently, Abhi is the managing director of EthosLabs, a government technology investment and advisory firm, supporting a portfolio of leading civic innovation organizations that engage over 100M people across more than 2,000 communities. Previously, Nemani helped launch and scale the internationally recognized nonprofit, Code for America, which served as a model for the Obama White House’s innovation strategy. In 2014, Mayor Eric Garcetti appointed Nemani as the City of Los Angeles’ first Chief Data Officer, and in that role, he drove the city’s analytics and transparency initiatives, garnering global recognition as the top data and digital city. Nemani later served as the Chief Innovation Officer for the City of Sacramento, building its landmark Innovation & Growth Fund to adapt economic development strategies for the digital economy.
Nemani has taught civic innovation at the University of Chicago and the World Bank, and he is a Visiting Scholar at the Rose Institute of State and Local Government and a member of Board of Directors of Leading Cities. In addition to executive credentials from Stanford (eMBA) and Wharton (AFP), Nemani holds a B.A. from Claremont McKenna College and a Masters of Public Administration (MPA) from the USC Price School of Public Policy.
