Brian (BD) Handspicker has 40+ years of experience defining internet interoperability standards and developing distributed software solutions. Brian is a subject matter expert on socialcare interoperability standards, as well as on the privacy and security of sensitive personal information and protected health information (PHI). Brian is a Fellow of the National Interoperability Collaborative (NIC), on the Board of DirectTrust, Chair of the Information Exchange for Human Services standards body, Co-Chair of the HL7 Human and Social Services standards body. He participates in the HL7 Gravity Project (Social Determinants of Health/SDOH) and HL7 Community-Based Care and Privacy WG, and is Technical Advisor to the Center of Excellence for the Alignment of Health and Social Care. He works as a fractional (part-time) executive including as CEO of PortaFide International and CTO of Stewards of Change Institute (SOCI). As an independent consultant Brian works through his own company, PracticalMarkets, Inc. as well as Stewards of Change and USAging, to provide technical guidance on community care solutions across human services, health services, housing, child welfare, education, and justice.
