The Honorable Mayor Yamekia Robinson is a 46-year-old native of Lake City, SC. She is a proud mother of five children and grandmother of two beautiful granddaughters. After graduating with honors from Lake City High School in 1997, she went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Biology degree from the University of South Carolina in Columbia. Her employment background includes working as a Certified Pharmacy Technician for 20 years, an office manager for BioSpine Health and Wellness, and a contributing writer for a local magazine (Our Neighborhood News). In 2019, she founded the Women of Wisdom Empowerment Group also known as WOW. WOW's mission is to celebrate, educate, and empower all women near and far. Mayor Robinson served as Lake City District 4 Councilwoman from November 2020 to January 2023, before assuming the position of Mayor on January 9, 2023. History was made on that day. She is the first female and African American female Mayor elected in her hometown Lake City, SC.
Mayor Robinson has dedicated her life to being a voice in the community for positive change. She serves on many committees and boards locally, statewide, and nationally such as the Dr. Ronald E. McNair Committee, Association of SC Mayors Board of Directors, and the National League of Cities Committee for Youth, Education, and Families (YEF). She would describe herself as a self-driven, transformational leader. Mayor Yamekia Robinson receives her joy and inspiration from her children, remains grounded in her faith, enjoys reading and journaling, all while remaining dedicated to the betterment of her community and hometown. Her historical quote is “Be the first to do it, then encourage others to do it even better.” Her daily scripture is Jeremiah 29:11, For I know the plans I have for you, thus said the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future.”
